Welcome to the memorial page for

Joan Jones

August 14, 1947 ~ April 8, 2016 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Joan (Joni) A. Jones (nee Hassil), age 68, of Waterford, WI, formerly of Woodruff and DeForest, WI, passed away in her sleep on Friday, April 8th, 2016 at Zilber Hospice, Wauwatosa, WI. Born August 14, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph Hassil and Irene (Buncik). Joan graduated from Sacred Heart of Mary in Rolling Meadows, IL, premier class of 1965. After a stint at Northern Illinois University, Joan left to marry her best friend Patricia's brother, Tom Jones of Wheeling, IL, on June 24th, 1967. After the birth of two daughters, Tom and Joan headed north to DeForest, WI, where they built their first home and raised their family. The Redbird Road years were fondly remembered by Joan's family and neighbors. Joan was an amazing homemaker, and started her other careers at Evco Plastics in DeForest before heading to the Northwoods in 1985 with Tom, to become entrepreneurs and run Country Lane Motel with their family for 15 years. She held many fond memories of her years on Johnson Lake, and the many customers that became friends. She volunteered for the Million Penny Parade and Cross Country Cruisers, among many other organizations. After the nest emptied, she held various hospitality jobs before moving to Waterford to be near her children and take on her favorite role of grandmother. Joan had the heart, kindness and compassion of a Saint and the strength of a soldier, just like her namesake Saint Joan of Arc.

Joan is survived by her children Dawn (Christian) Miaskowski, Dana Jones, Dustin (Mindy) Jones, and Diana (Aaron) Young. Joan was a second Mom to close family friend Greg Shirley. She is further survived by her grandchildren Xaviar, Gage, Phoenix, Kaia, LiliElla, and twins Katherine and Emmilyn. Further survived by her sister Jeanette (Dale) Yozamp of Lakeville, MN, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, and her true love, Rod Stewart. Joan was also known for "adopting" many neighborhood kids, those in need of a friend, and lost souls, and she will be greatly missed by all whose lives she blessed with her presence.

Joan was preceded in death by husband Tom Jones. She was also preceded in death by her parents and dear sisters Kay (Pat) Moran and Mary (Rol) Kehe.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 29th at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 305 South First Street, Waterford, WI. Visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30, with the service directly following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Joan's memory with an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone (or a charity) in her name.

The family wishes to thank all of the caretakers at St. Luke's Milwaukee and Zilber Hospice Wauwatosa.

We will miss you Mama Bear, and know that your spirit is dancing in Heaven.
